Amount of Majors: 180
Aesthetics:
A few years ago, the U of M asked Fortune 500 companies what they look for most in a potential employee. While a solid work ethic is important, most companies desire employees who are computer-savvy and communicate well with others. The U took this into consideration while building their new Active Learning classrooms; each room is equipped with drop-down screens on every wall, which have the professor projected upon them at all times during a class. Desks are arranged in groups, encouraging students to work together. Freshmen are encouraged to stay on campus, and can choose from a single, double, triple, or quad dorm room. All dorms are connected by an underground tunnel system, allowing easy access during the winter months.
Affordability:
The average cost for most undergraduates is $26,304 in-state.
Acceptance rates:
Average ACT: 28 Average SAT: 677
44.4% or fewer of applicants are accepted, so there's some definite competition for enrollment. Don't be discouraged, however! This is not the most competitive college by far.
Activities:
Greek life is present on campus, but it is not overwhelming. There is a relatively small amount of fraternities and sororities, considering the size of the campus. However, there are opportunities for anyone who wants to join one. Intramurals have a huge amount of participation, including groups that focus on less-common sports, such as cross-country and tae kwon do. There are over 800 clubs on campus, guaranteeing you will find a group of people will share a common interest with you.
Food:
The University of Minnesota has something for everyone, whether you are vegan, vegetarian, paleo, or gluten-free. Also, if you choose not to get a meal plan, there are countless restaurants within walking distance of the campus.
